Can an Apple a Day Can Keep Sun Spots Away?
Beautiful, supple, even toned skin is something we are all gifted with
at birth but must protect everyday to maintain. A lifetime of
unprotected fun in the sun will eventually lead to uneven
discoloration of your skin due to ultraviolet rays damaging our
melanin producing cells called melanocites located in the epidermis.
If your skin is not protected by wearing wide
brimmed hats, UV protective clothing, and sun blocks, your skin will
produce blotchy areas of clumped melanin (uneven tan). There are
several types of discoloration caused by the sun:
- Freckles are the skin’s natural defense
against UV rays in fair skinned people and will fade once proper
protection is incorporated in outdoor activity.
- Sun spots are also known as age or liver
spots. These are produced by cumulative sun exposure and mostly
affect the areas of face, hands, and arms of adults.
- Melasma is the darkening of large areas of
skin caused by the female hormone estrogen. Most common being the
“pregnancy mask” due to the surge of estrogen during pregnancy and
can be
caused by birth control pills that contain estrogen. Thanks to
nature, we have a safe, effective way to treat this uneven
discoloration with an extract from apples (Applephenon™), and AHA’s
such as L-arbutin, gallic acid, azelaic acids, and L-malic acid.
How Can Apples Help with Sun Spots?
Applephenon™: This unique skin brightening
ingredient has demonstrated to contain 10 times the amount of
polyphenols found in ripe apples. The polyphenols in Applephenon™
contain the
active ingredient procyanidin, effectively controlling melanin
formation by inhibiting tyrosinase activity. Additional skin
lighteners include:
- Alpha Arbutin: A non-toxic, natural form
of hydroquinone derived from bearberry, AKA uva ursi.
- Gallic acid: Abundantly present in the
leaves of witch hazel, the flower of mango, the fruit of alma (aka
embelica), pomegranate, rhubarb, and sumac tea leaves; it inhibits
tyrosinase production, therefore decreasing melanin synthesis.
- Azelaic acid: From oleic acid found in
milk fats and or potatoes. This acid is a skin lightener by
inhibiting tyrosinase activity.
These natural skin lightening ingredients coupled
with daily sun protection will even out summer sun induced skin
discoloration. MyChelle's New Apple Brightening Line includes the
