Unbounded
Energy, Beyond Natural
By David Steinman- Doctor’s Prescription for Healthy Living Article
For the discerning, conscientious shopper, it isn’t
enough to be natural these days. Heck, you can go into a Wal-Mart and
find natural, but look where your money is going—to a chain that for
all its recent much-publicized vaunted commitment to environmentalism
still has a long way to go before it can claim to be a green patriot
in its total approach.
“Natural” has virtually no federal or state legal
definition and seeing the claim on consumer products certainly doesn’t
guarantee that what you are purchasing was grown without chemical
pesticides or is free from toxic preservatives or petrochemicals that
fuel our nation’s oil dependency. Indeed, you can buy milk, which is
considered legally natural, that comes from dairy cows injected with
recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) and given regular amounts of
sulfa drugs; or poultry from hens fed low doses of antibiotics; or
so-called natural pork containing residues of sulfamethazine.
So-called natural cosmetics often contain petrochemical-based
ingredients, despite their claims.
The Nutrition Dilemma
For nutrition shoppers, the same dilemma exists.
Natural definitely isn’t enough. “All-natural” remedies and formulas
can contain residues of toxic solvents, petrochemical preservatives,
and even synthetic nutrients made from petroleum.
Beyond Natural
Market leaders, like New Chapter, of Brattleboro,
Vermont, are creating the pathway that is leading a nation of
conscious consumers beyond merely natural. They are taking a highly
systemic approach to your shopping experience so that when you
purchase any of their products—such as their wonderful
Zyflamend,
Tumericforce,
Gingerforce,
Holy Basil,
Prostate 5-LX, and
Berry Greens formulas—you are doing much more than just buying a
nutrition product. You’re buying a way of life. You’re investing in a
safe and secure future for America; in healthier, brighter children;
better wages; and a more vibrant world market leading economy.
Part of Green 100
I was quick to make
New Chapter one of the elite Green 100™ in my new book Safe Trip
to Eden. I’d even flown to Costa Rica to visit their 200-acre organic
ginger and turmeric farm that I came to see embodies everything
important to a sustainable future throughout the world (for the whole
story on New Chapter, be sure to purchase a copy of Safe Trip to
Eden).
While there, I’d seen how certified organic
permaculture can be used to grow rainforest herbs like turmeric and
ginger yet leave the rainforest intact—and all of this on a farm that
provided excellent wages and benefits, including paid holidays,
improving the entire community, which is beside the Children’s
Rainforest.
Big Green
Recently I traveled east to Baltimore, Maryland, to
see what the next big deal or trend for America would be. Certainly,
some of the most important concepts of what it means to create a
sustainable, safe, and secure future are being born in what marketing
experts call the Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS)
market, and there was no better place to get to know this market than
the 2006 Natural Products Expo at the Downtown Baltimore Convention
Center.
Every October, all of the natural product market
leaders decamp in Baltimore for a few days of nonstop talk and deal
making. But amid all of the business is an underlying theme that is
good for America’s future—and which I found embodied by New Chapter. I
also noticed that their booth was one of the most trafficked, and I
began to realize that the Big Green was really rolling in heavily over
the American consciousness.
Jet
Lagged Meets Unbounded Energy
Being tired from my trip, I picked up a sample of
Unbounded Energy, a new multivitamin for power and performance
from New Chapter.
It tasted wonderful. There is always something
special about a New Chapter formula. You actually smell and taste the
oregano, thyme, holy basil, turmeric and other herbs; you inhale their
essence deeply.
That is because New Chapter uses supercritical
nontoxic extraction methods in which organically grown herbs retain
the full phytochemical spectrum of the whole plant and are also free
from the toxic solvents that sometimes rob the herbs of their natural
powers and aromas. So that was the first thing I noticed—the taste. I
liked it.
The tablets tasted more like a healthy food. No
wonder.
Unbounded Energy delivers 22 essential vitamins and minerals
“within the infinite complexity of whole food” via a process involving
nutritional biotransformation.
“New Chapter provides you an organic probiotic
alternative to isolated or USP vitamins and minerals,” said Tom
Newmark, the company’s co-CEO (together with founder Paul Schulick)
who visited with me at the show.
All of their vitamins and minerals are cultured in
certified organic soy using nature’s most prized and studied
probiotics, featuring Lactobacilli acidophilus, bifidus, rhamnosus,
and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
New Chapter’s Probiotic Nutrients™ deliver bio-transformed
vitamins and minerals in their finest cultured form, much in the same
way as miso, kefir, tempeh, and yogurt are cultured to make foods like
dairy and soy even healthier. Because New Chapter’s nutrients are
bio-transformed and cultured, they are often also better for you:
- They are easy to digest, even on an empty
stomach—“they’re cultured whole food!” says Newmark. “They deliver
essential nutrients in their safest and most active form within the
infinite complexity of whole food.”
- Because of the novel compounds produced in the
culturing process, New Chapter’s whole food concentrates made with
organic ingredients provide an energizing and protective array of
phytonutrients and ferment metabolites, including cultured soy
isoflavones, beta glucans, bacteriocins, superoxide dismutase,
glutathione, lipoic acid, and enzymes.
Paul Schulick, who founded New Chapter, is one of
America’s leading herbalists. Each formula bears his gifted herbal
signature. Unbounded Energy’s calling card, in my opinion, was its
vital essence from seven natural energy sources, including tonic
mushrooms, fruits, flowers, leaves, roots, barks, and probiotics.
I liked it when the company claimed that
Unbounded Energy “helps awaken one’s inner healer and catalyze
[your] life force.” The company stated, “Moon Energy from reishi and
cordyceps mushrooms is married to the Sun Energy from antioxidant-rich
botanicals like schizandra, rhodiola, cherry and blueberry to provide
balanced and sustained energy—for all phases of life.”
“New Chapter is particularly proud to introduce
organic flower essences into the formulation,” Brian Hall told me. (A
former National Guards reservist, Hall is a member of the New Chapter
marketing team; he had accompanied me to Costa Rica.)
The combination called Vital Rhythms™ is produced
exclusively for New Chapter by Flower Essence Services. This
combination delivers the energetic imprint or life force of five
flowers, including self-heal to awaken the inner healer and morning
glory to revitalize healthy life rhythms.
Finally, one of the practical reasons why I
immediately liked
Unbounded Energy was that most ordinary people live on a budget.
Unbounded Energy brings together so many critical full-spectrum
organic ingredients into the formula; what’s more, the herbal
integrity of the company’s products is guaranteed with certification
by International Certification Services, Inc., perhaps the most strict
certification agency in the world today.
Besides 22 core vitamins and minerals (including
some of the most potent forms of chromium and selenium today),
Unbounded Energy contains organic probiotic herbal extracts such
as cordyceps (fruit body), schizandra (fruit), gotu kola (leaf), maca
(root), reishi (fruit body), cinnamon (bark), jujube (fruit), Korean
panax (root), American ginseng (root), eleuthero (root), astragalus
(root), cardamon (fruit), and cayenne (fruit)—all of which told me
this was a really nice non-caffeine-based energy formula. It also
contained organic blueberry, spinach, turmeric, rhodiola, and ginger.
Deeply Impressed
I left New Chapter’s wonderful world of herbs and
probiotic nutrients energized not only by the powerful, quickly
assimilated array of probiotic nutrients, herbs and flower essences in
Unbounded Energy but also by the deep impression the company left
upon me.
For LOHAS as a market to succeed and for America as
a nation to build a safe and secure future, we need to go beyond
natural. We need greater integrity, greater commitment, and a more
systemic approach to being green. New Chapter helps me as a consumer
to spend my money not only on my immediate health but as a means of
investing in our nation’s future. I like that. I need that. I have two
sons who will one day want to serve their country in any way that is
necessary, but I don’t want them to have to fight an oil war tomorrow
because of what we failed to do today. I think we can make their
future and your children’s future brighter and more secure; companies
like New Chapter are also helping the nation to end its foreign oil
dependency.
Obviously, not everyone wants guarana herb, ephedra,
or other caffeine-filled supplements for energy. They want something
deeper. A more sustainable energy that reflects personal balance and
sustainability.
We make contact with unbounded energy every day,
through our food, our breath, and our relationships. It flows down to
Earth in endless sunlight, captured in organic fruits, roots, and
flowers; medicinal mushrooms drink it from the moonlight in a forest.
It is there all around us in Nature, and now it is here, in New
Chapter’s
Unbounded Energy.
Your health and the health of those you love are
precious and deserve the finest nutritional support. New Chapter’s
Probiotic Nutrients represent, in my opinion, a vital organic choice
for the fullest potential of life.
For energy and nutritional and herbal
support, New Chapter’s Unbounded Energy is a top choice.
