of the most prominent influences during Jordan Rubin’s
RM-10 research came through
a book he read called Natural Compounds in Cancer Therapy, by John
Boik, which suggests employing a "multi-compound" natural treatment
for cancer versus administering only single compound therapy. Boik's
central focus states that "the beneficial effects of these compounds
are likely to be much more apparent when they are used in large
combinations, permitting additive and synergistic interactions to
occur." Well-known natural compounds such as MGN-3®, IP-6, Maitake
D-fraction®, Beta 1,3 Glucan, and Mannapol (an acemannan molecule from
aloe) are all only single constituents-whereas
RM-10™ was specifically
created to be a multi-faceted treatment approach for immune system
disorders such as cancer. This then led Jordan into a field of
relatively unexplored research on the dynamic functions of
carbohydrates, particularly a group of sugars occurring in chains
known as polysaccharides, more specifically polysaccharide peptides or
ImmunoGlycans, which are sugars bound to proteins that have a
pronounced effect on immune function. There are 8 different
monosaccharides that occur in nature as chains, largely in the fungi
kingdom. Medicinal mushrooms and certain yeasts are edible fungi.
Jordan then sought out the 10 most immune-enhancing (medicinal)
mushrooms at the stage of growth where the mycelia is about to form a
fruiting body, which is the highest in polysaccharides and the most
easily assimilable. In our diets today, we have a very low level of
these polysaccharides, especially the protein bound polysaccharides.
Adding these medicinal mushrooms to our daily regimen can greatly
enhance the health of the body, literally reprogram the immune system,
and significantly increase cell to cell communication. Jordan found
that not only were the sugars, the monosaccharides, abundant in these
medicinal mushrooms, but when combined with aloe vera gel, which is
rich in mannose, particularly the acemannan molecule, along with
Uncaria tomentosa (cat's claw), which provides potent alkaloids-that
this directly paralleled and supported Boik's multi-compound treatment
approach.
RM-10™ is
a combination of 10 certified organic medicinal mushrooms,
synergistically balanced with aloe vera and the healing herb Uncaria
tomentosa (cat's claw). Using certified organic mushrooms is an
important factor, since commercially grown varieties can be very high
in pesticide residues and toxic metals. These unique nutrients were
specifically chosen to feed and nourish the immune system. Medicinal
mushrooms and their extracts have been the subject of hundreds of
scientific studies that conclusively indicate their tremendous

So, what's in RM-10™ ?
Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi): Appearing in ancient Chinese herbal
texts more than 1500 years ago, this unique herb was considered to be
the "mushroom of immortality" and the "great protector." Reishi can
vitally aid the immune system and can have a strong effect against
tumors and cancer. A potential treatment for arthritis, it has been
further shown to help the cardiovascular system, and is found to
prevent and treat hardening of the arteries, angina, and shortness of
breath associated with coronary heart disease.
Cordyceps sinensis: Commonly used for
impotence and fertility, Cordyceps sinensis greatly improves immune
system function and strengthens the body's resistance to bacteria and
viruses. In addition, it has been used in China as a tonic for the
lungs and kidneys to relieve excessive fatigue, anemia, and
depression.
Coriolus versicolor: Considered to be a very
powerful anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, anti-tumor agent, and immune
enhancer, Coriolus versicolor has been helpful in treating and
decreasing the recurrence of gastric cancer, and it significantly
inhibits the growth of leukemia cells.
Lentinula edodes (Shiitake): Extracts from
this mushroom have been shown to be effective against Type 1 Herpes
Simplex virus, depressed immune system function, cancer, AIDS,
environmental allergies, and candida infections, as well as frequent
colds and flu. Shiitake has been used in the Orient for prevention of
high blood pressure and control of cholesterol levels, and is a potent
kidney and liver tonic.
Agaricus blazei: Has amazing immune enhancing
effects on the body as well as anti-tumor, anti-viral, and blood sugar
lowering properties. It also helps to form the enzyme tyrosinase,
which is used in the body to synthesize the protein melanin. Melanin
gives color to the skin and it is a vital component of skin and semen.
Grifola frondosa (Maitake): In Japan the
Maitake mushroom is called the "king of mushrooms" and many
researchers believe that it has anti-tumor effects. In the feudal era
of Japan, Maitake was exchanged for its weight in silver by local
lords, who in turn offered it to the Shogun. Maitake can be used on a
daily basis to promote healthy metabolic function and maintain vibrant
immunity.
Hericium erinaceus: Commonly prescribed in
traditional Chinese medicine for stomach ailments and prevention of GI
tract cancer, Hericium erinaceus has also been shown effective as an
immune enhancer and nerve tonic, and it aids respiratory function.
Poria cocos: This herb is valued for its easy
assimilation, helping the body shed surplus fluid, and aiding in
digestion. It is further used to strengthen the spleen and stomach,
eliminate phlegm, calm the heart, and lower blood sugar levels.
Tremella fuciformus: A highly prized health
food that is commonly cooked in soups to strengthen the lungs, restore
physical vitality, improve mental acuity, and replenish body fluids.
It is recommended in China to assist in weakness after child birth,
constipation, abnormal menstruation, and gastritis, and to reduce
fever.
Polyporus umbellatus: In a Chinese clinical
study of 146 patients, Polyporus umbellatus was used to reduce the
recurrence of bladder cancer by nearly 50%. It has been useful in the
treatment of urinary tract infections, and may limit leukemia cell
proliferation. It is also a potent anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant,
immune enhancer, and it assists lung and respiratory function.
Dr. Paris Kidd, Ph.D., of Berkeley, California, in
his presentation at the 10th American Biologics
Conference 2001 in Malta "An Update on Immuno-Glycans as Potent Immune
Enhancers for
Cancer Management."3 In his presentation he explained, "Immuno-Glycans
are sugar-protein
polymer complexes that have immune enhancing activity." Dr. Kidd
discussed anti-cancer
Immuno-Glycans including:
- Alpha-Glucans (many of the 10 mushrooms)
- Beta-Glucans (Agaricus, Maitake, Coriolus, etc.)
- Beta-Glucans from Maitake mushroom known as
Maitake d-Fraction (Maitake)
- Beta-Glucanated Proteins (Proteoglycans) (many of
the 10 mushrooms)
- Arabinogalactans (many of the 10 mushrooms)
- Arabinoxylans (brown rice interaction with
mushroom mycelia probiotic yeasts)
- Lentinan (Shiitake)
- Schizophyllan (Shiitake)
- Polysaccharide-Kureha (PSK) (Coriolus)
- Polysaccharide-Peptide (PSP) (Coriolus)
All of these healing compounds are well represented
in the broad spectrum polysaccharide compound
RM-10™.
Aloe Vera has been used by nearly every
civilization dating back over 6500 years to the Egyptians. Aloe is
effective at reducing internal and external inflammation, and helps
regulate blood sugar levels. It is a powerful antioxidant, containing
anti-bacterial and anti-viral nutrients that support the immune
system. Aloe Vera is high in the sugar "Mannose," particularly the
acemannan molecule, which is shown to have anti-viral, anti-tumoral,

chain polysaccharides present in aloe. The outer leaf of the plant,
which is a source of alloin (a purgative), is removed, and only fresh,
whole leaf Aloe Vera gel that is pre-digested with 14 proprietary
strains of beneficial microorganisms is used in
RM-10™. Aloe happens to be a
great growth medium for lactobacilli and other microorganisms, so the
gel is often quickly preserved. However, Garden Of Life, manufacturer
of RM-10™, doesn't isolate
the components; they instead pre-digest them. In summary, the Aloe
Vera in RM-10™ is fresh,
never pasteurized or preserved. Only certified organic, whole leaf,
non-isolate aloe gel is used.
Uncaria tomentosa (cat's claw) has been used
for centuries by herbal practitioners around the world, to treat a
variety of diseases and chronic inflammatory conditions. It assists in
lowering blood pressure and preventing the spread of tumors and viral
infections. Uncaria tomentosa is a strong source of alkaloids,
particularly the pentacyclic oxindole alkaloid, which aids in
oxygenating and alkalinizing the bloodstream. It can also enhance both
primitive and acquired immunity. Cat's claw is a fibrous bark which is
difficult for the human body to assimilate intact, since the human
digestive tract doesn't inherently produce cellulase. The active
compound in Uncaria tomentosa can be as little as 1%. Garden Of Life's
exclusive pre-digestion process dramatically increases absorption and
utilization of these potent alkaloids and makes them "body ready."
RM-10™ is hundreds of times
more potent than the standard cat's claw products on the market, due
to its unique delivery system.
Each of the powerful, nutrient dense ingredients in
RM-10™ utilizes a
proprietary natural process of lacto-fermentation and enzymatic
pre-digestion called "PotenZyme" (Poten-tiation by Enzym-atic
activation). This exclusive delivery system employs 14 strains of
beneficial probiotic micro-organisms within a whole food
matrix-thereby liberating valuable medicinal compounds, and enhancing
bio-availability and absorption of healing properties 2-5 times.
Poten¬Zyme is a "full spectrum" extraction method, utilizing
magnetized and structured water, which aids the fermentation process.
The constituents in RM-10™
contain large amounts of polysaccharides, including beta glucans and
triterpines. Many herbal compounds are isolated, standardized, or
extracted to sequester a single component at the expense of the
others. The PotenZyme process however, breaks down proteins into amino
acids, fats into fatty acids, and carbohydrates into glucose
molecules, and also breaks down fiber, which then liberates the
nutrients that are bound to the fiber, thereby creating its own
nutrients-its own "alchemy." For example, fermentation can activate
various nutrients such as isoflavones, phytochemicals, phytosterols,
and beta-glucans-and create anti-oxidant enzymes such as Super Oxide
Dismutase (SOD). An analogy of this activity is seen in yogurt. When
fermentation is applied to the same 8 ounces of milk used to make 8
ounces of yogurt, certain vitamins then become 2-20 times more potent.
Proteins, carbohydrates, and fats are all broken down and become much
easier to digest.
The RM-10™
formulation is based on the concept of "synergy." Not only are the
ingredients fermented, but they are actually grown together. To
illustrate this idea, it can be likened to the preparation of a pot of
soup or stew. The meal has the characteristics and benefits of each
individual ingredient, while it also holistically embodies harmony and
synergy as the ingredients meld into one food containing the qualities
of all. The fermentation process in
RM-10™ accomplishes this
same activity.
A very important side-note: There are records of
traditional herbalism from the Orient and other cultures in the east
dating back 1500 years ago, which talked about herbal remedies that
were used to treat a variety of ailments. In the past there were
always very predictable, very effective, very potent results. Yet
today, we are not getting the same kind of healing response from these
herbs. Jordan believes that the reason people today aren't being
helped is not necessarily due to the lack of healing properties in the
herbs themselves-it is the direct result of an ultimate breakdown in
the human digestive tract. The nutrients and phytochemicals contained
in herbs are not being broken down and utilized properly by the body,
primarily because people's guts have been destroyed from the over-use
of prescription medications-antibiotics, cortico steroids, and other
immune suppressive drugs-as well as chlorinated and fluoridated water,
ambient pollutants in our environment, and an overall poor diet
coupled with a steady intake of junk foods. The application of the
PotenZyme process in RM-10™
is a way for our bodies to utilize all of the phytochemicals and
phytonutrients available in these herbs, with very little stress on
the digestive tract. This benefit is extremely important to those
people on chemotherapy and radiation, or those with AIDS and other
immune disorders who have very little digestive capability. The
enzymatic "pre-digestion" process in
RM-10™ increases
bioavailability and absorption of the medicinal compounds making them
"body ready" for everyone, even those with compromised digestion.
RM-10™ has
been examined in an in-vitro clinical study performed by Dr. Pierre
Braquet, Ph.D. and CEO of Bio-Inova research laboratories located in
Paris and Montreal. Bio-Inova does clinical testing on pharmaceutical
and nutriceutical compounds. This study was conducted together with
Dr. Georges Halpern M.D., Ph.D. Dr Halpern is certified in internal
medicine, as well as allergy and clinical immunology, and is also a
visiting professor at the University of Hong Kong.
RM-10™
performed notably well in its ability to enhance NK cell activity (the
Natural Killer cells that engulf foreign invaders). NK cells are
critical in defending our body against aggressions, e.g.: infections
(including intra-cellular ones like Tuberculosis), parasites,
malignancies, etc. Dr. Halpern is quoted as saying that "RM-10™
increases NK cells better than anything else on the market, and at
minimal concentrations," which directly correlates with the
recommended dosage on the bottle.
RM-10™ had a marked effect
on monocyte immune cell function. It substantially increased
interluken-1 (IL-1), responsible for cell to cell communication and
interluken-6 (IL-6), which directs cellular defense. In addition,
RM-10™ enhanced the
performance of macrophage activity, which functions to unlock and
activate receptor molecules on the surface of white blood cells,
thereby providing optimal immune system defense. In this study,
RM-10™ caused an increase in
the cancer fighting compound Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF-a),
which destroys malignant cancer cells in tumors. There was also strong
evidence that RM-10™ may
decrease the over-production of pro-inflammatory chemicals such as
cytokines, which may be implicated in inflammation. Furthermore,
RM-10™ showed an inhibitory
effect on cell proliferation against the myelogenous leukemia cell
K-562, exhibiting anti-tumor action that reduced the number of cancer
cells by 52% when taken in large doses.
RM-10™ also showed a modest
increase in lymphocyte production.
Most importantly, these findings indicate that
RM-10™ increased the
natural/innate immunity that everyone is born with, in addition to the
acquired immunity. Taken together, the increased activity of NK cells
and increased secretion of monokines demonstrate the
immuno-potentiation of natural/innate immunity, an essential part of
our defense system. In response to the increase in IL-1, IL-6, and TNF-a,
Dr. Halpern is quoted as saying that "natural immunity is universal,
and protects us regardless of the nature of the aggressor." He also
states that "RM-10™ both
enhanced the efficiency and its numbers on NK function in relatively
small dosages on healthy cells in healthy individuals." This clearly
suggests the efficacy of using
RM-10™ on a daily basis at maintenance levels, to enhance immune
function in normal, healthy individuals.
RM-10™ is safe to use for
people with auto immune conditions…because it also performs as an
immune modulator.
In summary,
RM-10™ is safe to use on a daily basis for overall immune
function. It is safe for auto immune conditions such as AIDS, Cancer,
Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Inflammatory Bowel
Disease, Hepatitis C, etc. It increases NK cells and enhances monocyte
(IL-1, IL-6, TNF-a) and lymphocyte production…The probiotics, enzymes,
and cat's claw in RM-10™ aid
in the digestion and elimination process. In essence, the constituents
in RM-10™ both assist the
body in assimilation of the product itself and also aid digestion.
