What is the Most Important
Supplement
for Women Today?
by the Health Experts at Healthy Living Magazine
WHY are omega-3s the most important supplement for
women today?
Omega-3
fatty acids are the most important supplement for women. That’s right:
up there along with calcium, vitamin D, and iron. But when they are
synergized with fucoxanthin and astaxanthin, two powerful health
protectors, women enjoy a super shield of protection.
Shortages of omega-3 fatty acids are so prevalent
among women that a fifth of our population has virtually no
circulating omega-3s in their bloodstreams and suffers from everything
from arthritis to cancer and heart disease because of this primary
deficiency. You see, the body can’t make these essential fatty acids
but must derive them from only a few select superfoods: salmon, flax
and chia are three popular sources. Green leafy vegetables also have a
small amount.
There can be no doubt that at all periods of women’s
lives, from when she is in utero to childhood and her child-bearing
years and beyond, omega-3 fatty acids are critical to health; without
these omega-3s, women die premature deaths from ravaging diseases, or
their children are born with developmental deficiencies.
But enough of the scary stuff. Our point is this:
Women are only now waking up to the fact that they have to supplement
omega-3s in their diet to have a chance of enjoying emotional,
physical, and reproductive health and well-being—and especially if
they are planning pregnancy or are pregnant.
Every portion of a woman’s body needs omega-3s. And
if you’re not consuming tons of flaxseed, chia seeds, salmon, ahi tuna
or mackerel, or a whole lot of wild game, chances are you are not
getting an optimal omega-3 intake.
With high levels of omega-3s circulating in your
tissues, you experience improved brain health and emotional
well-being. Much of the brain is made up of docosahexaenoic acid or
DHA, one of the key omega-3s, which, by the way, is now put in baby
formulas. An abundance of omega-3s in the body allows for easier
reproductive cycles and lowered risks for many of our leading killers
and causes of morbidity today—heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s.
Omega-3 fatty acids are so profoundly important to
everyone’s health that the federal Office of Management and Budget and
the American Heart Association both have recommended that if you are
not eating omega-3–rich seafood (such as salmon, ahi, and mackerel),
you should be taking a supplement. That’s a huge endorsement.
Omega-3 can make a huge difference in your life—and
they are so readily available in supplement form that your real
problem is just knowing which formula to choose.
Pacific salmon have some of the highest omega-3
levels today. In other words, their omega- 3s are so rich and their
levels of pollution are so low, that they make a great choice. Yet,
here's the rest of the story: have you ever wondered why Pacific
salmon are so red in color? It’s because of astaxanthin, a powerful
ocean carotenoid that is exciting scientists and health professionals
around the world. Similarly,
Oceans 3 Healthy Hormones,” like wild Pacific salmon, is rich
in both omega-3 fatty acids and astaxanthin, with incredible purity
and potency.
WHY are the nutrients of the sea so important for
your health today?
OmegaXanthin,
a synergistic complex of three health-promoting compounds from the
ocean, provides all the benefits of a high-potency omega-3 supplement
plus two powerful ocean based antioxidants, fucoxanthin and
astaxanthin, for an amplified range of benefits unmatched by ordinary
omega-3 formulations. The combination of highly purified omega-3 fatty
acids with the added benefits of fucoxanthin and astaxanthin makes
this a truly unique formula.
As an antioxidant,
astaxanthin benefits cardiovascular health, supports the
body’s natural response to inflammation, immune system health, and eye
health, and even supports healthy skin, bones and joints.
Fucoxanthin is a dynamic antioxidant carotenoid from brown
seaweed, noted for its ability to fight free radicals that can cause
damage at the cellular level, exerting its protective effects directly
in fat cells.
Why is this so critical to women’s health?
Brown seaweed has been associated with very much
lower rates of cancer and rheumatoid arthritis among Asian women.
There are many important compounds that have been discovered in
seaweed, including polysaccharides that carry out toxins and powerful
antioxidants that are members of the vitamin A carotenoid family.
BRAIN PROTECTOR
And what about the deep red flesh of the freshest,
wildest salmon? That’s from another marine carotenoid called
astaxanthin (AST), a powerful antioxidant that occurs naturally in a
wide variety of living organisms. But one little-known fact: AST
crosses the brain-blood barrier. “Astaxanthin protects neuronal cells
against oxidative damage and is a potent candidate for brain food,”
reported scientists from the Laboratory of Food and Biodynamics,
Graduate School of Bioagricultural Science, Nagoya University, Nagoya,
Japan.
A trio of clinically studied botanicals—ashwagandha,
amla berry and Lifenol® wild hops, noted for their positive effects on
the hormonal and emotional health of women of all ages—is also put in
this formula, which makes it all the more balancing.
Ashwagandha, found in
Oceans 3 Healthy Hormones, addresses the direct issue of
stress. Clinical studies indicate that ashwagandha promotes a positive
mood and a calm and relaxed state of mind. This, in turn, helps
inhibit stress-related overeating and helps control carb cravings and
the associated weight gain.
Ashwagandha is a small branching shrub that grows in
arid, less-populated subtropical regions of India, Pakistan,
Afghanistan, Spain, the Middle East and Africa. Its roots are
harvested for medicinal use and prized for their rejuvenating
properties, which hold a special place in the ancient Indian science
of Ayurvedic medicine. Pharmacological research is now identifying
numerous medically useful compounds in the withania family that are
thought to be responsible for its highly esteemed vitalizing
properties.
Of the 23 known species of withania, ashwagandha is
the most highly researched. For medicinal purposes, the roots and
leaves are dried and prepared into capsules or tablets. In India, this
herb is often referred to as “Indian ginseng” because of its
anti-stress protective functions. However, unlike some of the more
fiery forms of ginseng (e.g., Korean red ginseng), ashwagandha lacks
potent stimulant effects. Instead, ashwagandha acts to help tonify the
muscular, nervous, reproductive, and hormonal systems. It is
especially useful in cases of weakness due to overwork and
nervousness, and is also used in treatments for those suffering from
the debilitating effects of chronic diseases, such as cancer.
Medical researchers recently termed the active
compounds in ashwagandha as adaptogens— agents that cause adaptive
reactions within the body that enable its ability to resist stress,
particularly in the case of disease-related physical stress.
Pharmacological research has shown it has a protective activity that
takes on many functions in the body, including modulating blood
pressure, muscle tone, cell reproduction, cartilage and joint
integrity, fevers, pain, inflammation, insulin sensitivity and blood
sugar.
Amla berry (Emblica officinalis) supports
collagen biosynthesis, a vital factor in maintaining healthy-looking
skin. Long revered in Ayurvedic medicine, this plum-sized fruit,
native to India, is packed with whole food vitamin C and naturally
occurring bioflavonoids. It is revered for its anti-aging and
immune-enhancing properties, and many of the great Ayurvedic tonics
(such as chyavanprash) are based on amla. In fact, research has shown
that only 8.7 milligrams (mg) of natural vitamin C complex from amla
is equivalent to 100 mg of the most commonly used synthetic ascorbic
acid. This is due to the rich phytochemical cofactors present in amla.
Amla berry is a prime anti-aging and anti-cancer
supplement, but also so much more. In a recent review of published
articles on amla, extracts or the whole fruit were shown to be useful
for elevated cholesterol, diabetes, as an additive treatment in cancer
therapies, and as a powerful antioxidant.
Lifenol, a patented wild hops extract, has
been clinically shown to reduce the frequency of hot flashes. It
contains female hop cone extract standardized in prenyl - flavonoids,
including 8-PN, the most active phytoestrogen known to this date. The
patented process notably guarantees a unique profile in prenyl -
flavonoids. This specific profile has been the subject of efficacy
studies on menopausal disorders, especially hot flashes. Two
double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials show that 120 mg of
Lifenol per day, over a period of six or eight weeks, depending on the
study:
- reduces more than twice the general menopausal
symptoms compared to the placebo;
- reduces by four times hot flashes compared to the
placebo.
Put this all together and you have what is quite
arguably a fantastic omega-3 supplement. But there’s one more element
that you need to know about: extreme value. Value is the key.
OCEANS OF VALUE
WHY
is
Oceans 3 Healthy Hormones different from other women’s support
supplements?
If you were to take a stroll down the supplement
aisle of your local health food store, you would find fish oils,
astaxanthin and fucoxanthin sold separately, and for good reason. All
three ingredients have unique selling points that justify a “stand
alone” product. With Oceans 3 Healthy Hormones, you get an omega-3
fish oil of the highest quality and purity from eco-harvested fish,
with the added benefits of the two extraordinary antioxidants.
The truly incredible part? This is done without
sacrificing the level of omega-3 fats in the product. A comparison to
the number-one selling fish oil in health food stores shows that
Oceans 3 Healthy Hormones has 675 mg of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA,
one of the key long-chain omega-3s) and 450 mg of DHA versus 650 mg of
EPA and 450 mg of DHA for the leading brand. The price is comparable
as well. For about 10 cents a day more, you can also get the amplified
benefits of a synergistic combination of highly purified omega- 3 fish
oil, astaxanthin and fucoxanthin.
Additionally, stand-alone astaxanthin products
containing 4 mg of astaxanthin per serving, the same amount you
receive in the Oceans 3
Healthy Hormones formula, retail for anywhere between $19.99
to $24.99. When you add in the fucoxanthin, you are getting an omega-3
fish oil product with more value than any other product, period. This
represents a sea of change in omega-3 supplements where consumers get
more value and quality and definitely a deeper approach to what it
means to supplement for health.
