Oceans 3 Quality Promise
The scientific and medical communities have repeatedly
touted the benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids and consistently recommend
them for their numerous benefits to overall health. If you are taking
the time to supplement with an omega-3 fatty acid then you are concerned
with good health, and if you are concerned with good health, the quality
of your supplement matters. The quality of fish and fish oils are of
particular concern due to the issues of environmental toxins that may be
present in certain varieties of fish.
Consumers should always look for a quality product to
ensure
they receive the benefits they expect and minimize their
exposure to toxins that may be present in fish. Towards that end, Garden
of Life introduces our Oceans 3 Quality Promise.
1. Purity
2. Freshness
3. Environmental Sustainability
PURITY
Because there is such an acute concern over the
presence of chemical toxins in the ocean, and subsequently the fish that
are harvested from the ocean – purification is of primary importance in
the development of a premium line of Omega-3 fish oils. Purification
refers to the manufacturing process dedicated to removing environmental
toxins that may be present in fish. These environmental toxins include
heavy metals such as mercury and lead, as well as dioxins and PCBs.
International Standards
While there are no US standards governing purity
standards for fish oils, US based manufacturers rely on international
standards that have been set for environmental toxins. While there are a
number of international agencies that set standards, including the
European Commission (EC), the European Pharmacopeia (EP), and the
Norwegian Medicinal Standard (NMS) – the standards are by and large
consistent, with little variations on the specifications for heavy
metals, dioxins, and PCBs.
Oceans 3 formulas meet or exceed these strict international standards
for purity:

Using the Norwegian Medicinal Standards (NMS) for
comparison, Oceans 3 meets or exceeds their standards for dioxins, PCBs,
mercury, and lead.
PureMax
When you see the PureMax seal it means “quality you
can trust”. Only the Oceans 3 formulas utilize PureMax technology, a
multiple-stage molecular distillation process, employing extensive
quality controls to produce a pharmaceutical-grade Omega-3 fish oil that
sets the new industry standard for purity and concentration.
Pharmaceutical Grade – An Absolute Standard
- Pharmaceutical grade fish oil means the fish oil
has been manufactured at a true pharmaceutical API (active
pharmaceutical ingredient) facility that has passed stringent audits
devised by the pharmaceutical industry.
- From a consumer standpoint, “pharmaceutical-grade”
means the product must be in excess of 99 percent purity without any
binders, fillers, excipients, dyes, or unknown substances.
For example: Mercury – the risk of mercury impacting your health can
outweigh the benefits of the omega-3 fats, which is why Omega- 3 fish
oil supplements – purified of mercury, PCBs and other contaminants –
are so popular
- PureMax technology, can offer a 99.6% reduction in
the levels of dioxin-like PCBs while increasing concentrations of
omega-3 fatty acids.
FRESHNESS
In addition to purity, another measure of quality is
freshness. The oxidation of the fatty acids can impair the structure and
function of EPA and DHA, as well as cause the unpleasant odors or tastes
that many associate with fish oils. There are two primary oxidation
markers to be aware of: peroxides and anisidine. Peroxides generally
refer to short term stability and freshness, whereas anisidine points
more to long term viability of the oil.
All Oceans 3 formulas meet or exceed international
standards for freshness:

Using the Norwegian Medicinal Standards (NMS) for
comparison, Oceans 3 meets or exceeds their standards for peroxide and
anisidine values. The end result: ultra pure, high potency
pharmaceutical-grade fish oil with a fresh, clean taste, and no fishy
repeat or lingering aftertaste.
All Oceans 3 fish oil is verified pure and fresh
through independent, third-party testing that exceeds the strict
Norwegian Medicinal Standard and European Pharmacopoeia standards for
peroxides, anisidine, mercury, lead, dioxins and PCBs.
ENVIRONMENTAL
SUSTAINABILITY
Because Garden of Life is committed to preserving our
planet’s valuable resources for future generations, our fishery partners
adhere to sustainable practices and only harvest fish that are abundant
in the wild and never endangered.
More specifically, the harvesting of the Norwegian
Arctic Cod for Oceans 3 formulas is done by local fishing boats and
regulated by the Norwegian Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs to
ensure sustainability for future generations.
